BSB Superstock 1000
Round 2 - Thruxton

Fast and bumpy...

16th April 2012

...That's definitely the ride Matt had this weekend!
Knowing you are going to one of the fastest tracks in the country and knowing you don't know anything more than that; like which way the next corner turns, can be a daunting prospect. Well It wouldn't be any fun if it was easy! And Matt certainly likes a challenge. A fast one is even better!

Matt went to Thruxton expecting to struggle and aimed to find his way whilst staying in one piece and adding the experience to his learning year in BSB Superstock.

The problems from Brands Hatch were tagging along for the ride and rear grip in the dry was once again an issue. The wet was a different story and the compliant shock, now highlighted to be at fault, gave enough feel to run a cracking pace in a wet Q2. Slotting himself nicely in the top 13 was a massive achievement and a super-positive way to head into the Shoot Out. For once the dry conditions didn't come as help. The lack of grip from the rear tyre put Matt on crab-like progress (sideways!) to pulling out on lap 6.

Shock, meet bin! Or the cheaper option... a damn good service.
All down to experience, and Matt, pleased with his show in the wet explained, "Heading into Church with your knee on the floor and the back end heading for the scenery doesn't inspire confidence!" and he opted to save the bike for use another day.

Next round - Oulton Park, with new found rear grip and another shot at BSB Superstock1000. And hopefully, no need for one-kneed prayers in any sort of Church!

Well done to Matt for his progress.
On the whole, It may not seem like a great result but laying down a great pace in the wet at a new track, in such a hard fought series showed a potential worth building on. Roll-on round 3!

BSB Superstock 1000
Round 1 - Brands Hatch review.

Positive start for Matt.

10th April 2012.

What a shocking weekend to test the water...
Wet and cold to start with and aside of the normal hassles and an "off" for Matt in practice, the track slowly lost all grip from oil and fuel spills. Not a help! No excuse needed though as Matt's times showed what he wanted; the fact that he can run the pace needed to make a dent in the fast men of BSB Superstock.

In the end, despite best efforts, the oversubscription meant Matt fell a handful of places outside the selection and didn't make it to the main event.

No harm done...
Lap times were well within the target and considering the tricky conditions and a hard tyre choice for Q2, Matt did very well with full wets on a drying track. Pleased with the results Matt said,"I knew this weekend would be difficult for me and I was under no illusions that I probably wouldn't qualify... I enjoyed my weekend and learnt a lot, that's what counts to me!" Well said and carrying that experience forward to Thruxton this weekend could prove very valuable.

Next Round, Thruxton, 13th-15th April.
Frying pan into the fire for Matt this weekend as not only is Thruxton a notoriously fast circuit but there is Litttle-to-No chance to test there beforehand. First time on track at Thruxton will be a challenge to say the least but he's up to it and heading for progress in committed Stoney fashion.

Matt does not expect to feature in the results and says he'll be happy to put in a positive ride. Don't let that fool you... This shot of Matt at Brands Hatch shows his intent and whatever happens, he won't be going slow! Good luck Matt.

Matt Stone - 2012 BSB Superstock 1000
Round 1 - Brands Hatch preview.

2nd April 2012.
Matt Stone, RatMally supported racer, readies himself for the 2012 season with a stint in the Almeria sun... Nice.
Pictured below testing the new Blade ahead of 2012's entry in the notorious BSB Superstock 1000 class.

Testing went well and the first BEMSEE round at Snetterton proved very positive. Although there were may issues to resolve, Matt showed he could run the pace needed by grabbing a 7th place (from the back of the grid) in the open final and pulling out of 3rd spot in the Stock1000 with technical problem.

This easter weekend hosts round 1 of British Superbikes at Brands Hatch and Matt will be pulling it all together for his first entry into the hugely competitive Superstock 1000 series. This is a big step for Matt and lets hope the RatMally race graphics give Matt the extra second he deserves.

Matt Has tested well at Brands and running a 49 second lap of the Indy circuit should put him safely on the grid for the main event. Qualifying starts on Saturday morning, with the racing starting on Saturday at 5.30pm for the shootout and the main event on Sunday at 2.40pm. You can see all the action on British Eurosport on Bank holiday Monday and we'll be tweeting all news as it comes RatMally twitter... catch updates from Matt at stoneyracing.com - fb and twitter.

RatMally has supplied a selection of race graphics and stickers for Matt, including custom designed race numbers and sponsor graphics and hope to see Matt blurring the edges this season! Good luck!

Background...

RatMally is pleased to join forces to help Matt and Stoney Racing for 2012... Matt cracked some heads together and took a championship 2nd place in his Rookie 2011 year with BMCRC club & the MRO 600 Rookie Championships. Matt grabbed 3 wins through 2011 as the title was fought between front runners and the final series winner, Scott Hudson.

2012 is the year to shine... Matt worked hard over the winter to promote his chances of a competitive ride in the BSB Superstock 1000 & MRO Stock 1000 series. Efforts repaid as the new year saw Matt find commitment from continuing sponsors Oakley design.eu and SilverX Motorbikes, plus fresh help from Devereux chambers, Swift telecoms, TTS surfacing, Sapphire classics, Eastern garage and Car Smart body repairs... Phew! Good skills and welcome help ahead of the viciously competitive BSB Superstock 1000 series.

Guy McKenzie - EMRA Formula 400 2012

Guy McKenzie #22 heads up the EMRA Formula 400 charge for RatMally in 2012.
Guy's Rookie year has passed and he plans to make a big noise at the Friendly Circuit this year.

Everyone loves the 400 class and great close racing is what it's all about. Look out for Guy#22 this year... Pictured here in 2011 form. New RatMally livery to come for 2012 ;0)

This is grassroots racing at it's best and these little exotics are a premium to maintain... Fancy helping? Get your name on the side of a screaming 400 and at the least, spend a day in the sun with an ice cream, proud as punch, watching your racer burn some rubber.
